About

Our History

Smart Water Services was created at NewFields Companies in Atlanta, Georgia in 2011 with the goal to provide fresh and innovative solutions for the water utility industry using smart water network technologies and services. In 2014, Smart Water Services, LLC was created as an independent company to continue this mission based on the understanding that:

Most water utilities face similar operational, engineering, and long-term planning challenges.

SCADA

Incomplete, underutilized, or lack of access to important SCADA information

Data

Lack of real-time data  at remote points in their water, sewer, and stormwater networks

Software

Limited interoperability between major software systems - GIS, SCADA, IoT, hydraulic model, CMMS, etc.

Staffing

Insufficient staffing resources to manage these systems and turn data into actionable intelligence

We knew there must be better a way – and so SWIMM was born.

SWIMM = Smart Water Infrastructure Monitoring + Modeling + Management

SWIMM-Pulse IoT is a turn-key, sensor agnostic, low-power, multi-application, remote monitoring and control platform that is provided as a cloud managed software-as-a-servie (Saas) that can be deployed to virtually any point in a water, sewer, or stormwater network. SWIMM-VFM IoT (Virtual Flow Meter) greatly simplifies the development of real-time network simulation models to months (not years) using your existing hydraulic modeling software (Innovyze or Bentley) for a similar cost as a traditional model update project.

Leadership

Founder and President of Smart Water Services, Paul West, P.E., is a civil engineer with 22 years of professional experience in municipal water-wastewater consulting, utility management, and technology product commercialization. Mr. West has worked at local, national, and global consulting firms providing a broad range of technical and project management services: buried infrastructure planning, study, design, construction, and O&M services.

Mr. West is a subject matter expert in smart water network technologies, IoT, data analysis, and water-wastewater network modeling (i.e. calibration, surge, energy, water quality). Mr. West also serves on local and national AWWA committees.
